Cumbia bands and cultural collectives are often much more than performers they’re community builders, educators, and storytellers. Through workshops and gatherings, they pass on the rhythms, instruments, and rich history of cumbia, helping people especially the youth feel pride in their roots and culture. Many of these groups also show up for their communities in powerful ways, supporting social causes, creating safe spaces for expression, and using music as a form of resistance and healing. For those living in the diaspora, these collectives become a bridge to home, keeping traditions alive while also making space for new voices and experiences to shape the music. It’s in these shared moments of learning, dancing, and remembering that community truly comes alive.

Music Workshop

Poder del Pueblo organized a musical workshop featuring musicians from Gaiteros de Pueblo Santo. During the workshop, they demonstrated how to perform cumbia using traditional percussion instruments, shared their musical philosophy, and concluded the event with a live performance.

Fundraiser Events

Local bands supported a fundraiser for teachers in El Salvador, creating an event that brought people together for a meaningful cause. It was a powerful moment of community connection, solidarity, and shared purpose.

Porchella

Porchella was part of a larger porch fest, but decided to focus on creating a more intimate space bringing together friends and family to enjoy live music in the neighborhood during the day. It was all about spending quality time, listening to the band, and having fun in a relaxed, community centered setting.
